Though a problem with their port 1,550-plus-hp Sterling Performance engine during the GLOC Performance Boat Challenge kept Kenny Mungle and Michael Lee Lockwood from running their 32-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran in last weekend’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, the Gone Again team duo will run their Skater 388 cat in the upcoming Super Boat International National Championships in Clearwater, Fla. The event is scheduled for Sunday for Oct. 2.

Dubbed Gone Again/STIHL, the 38-footer competes in the Superboat class. Mungle purchased the cat from the Noble family earlier this season, and so far he and Lockwood have run it in two races—the SBI season-opener in Cocoa Beach, Fla., and the Offshore Powerboat Association Lake Race at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri.

“Honestly, I’ll be really happy for us to go out and finish,” said Mungle. “It’s a right-hand turn event. I have never raced to the right. We are going to go have a good time. If I start dead last and finish dead last, I’m happy. If I start last and finish first I’m my happy. My goal is just to finish.

“I’m going up against John Tomlinson, Grant Bruggemann, Billy Mauff, Randy Sweers and all the rest of those guys,” he added. “Those are the top dogs, I’m just a little pup. If we finish, we’re doing all right.”
